While responding to the scene of a deadly shooting, the deputy was simply doing his job—securing the area and protecting others—when the suspect suddenly turned his vehicle into a weapon.

Without warning, the suspect drove off the roadway and struck the deputy at full speed, throwing him nearly 40 feet through the air. Despite the brutal impact and severe injuries, the danger was far from over.

The suspect exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and advancing toward the injured deputy.

In that moment, while fighting through pain and injuries of serious trauma, the deputy did what he was trained to do. He defended himself and the community, stopping the threat before anyone else could be harmed.

This deputy is hospitalized and beginning what will likely be a long and difficult road to recovery.
